Vijaydurg fort is situated in Taluka Devgad, District Sindhudurg, State Maharashtra, India. One of the best harbours on the western coast and without any bar it may be entered in all weathers. Vijaydurg fort is connected by road from National Highway NH 17 at Tarale village near Kharepatan and also through the Phonda, Karul pass connected through Deccan ghat sections to Kolhapur city gives access to National Highway NH 4. Vijayudurg fort was earlier known as "Gheria", constructed in the regime of Raja Bhoj of shilahar dynasty in 1205 (construction period 1193-1205) Chatrapati Shri. Shivaji Maharaj won this fort from Adilshaha of Bijapur in 1653 and renamed it as “Vijaydurg”.
